Synology Account4/26/2021
Weve hopefully sorted the shared folder issue by use of credential manager, now you have an issue with applications - but i dont get what your problem is exactly. On the NAS DSM Ive set up volumes, Shared folders, the Users and Group Permissions.
I can see the NAS under File Explorers Network node, but I can only expand that if I Enter Network Password for the NAS when I click on the NAS node. To run any Synology packages (e.g. DSM, Photo Station, etc.) I have to login as one of the NAS Users. I have a few questions that I cannot find answers to on Synology or the web. Is there a way to associate a Local Windows logged in User with the relevant NAS DSM User so that access to the NAS folders, files and running Synology packages is controlled by which Windows user is logged in Synology tell me the Windows user has to log into the NAS (DSM) to access it or to run any of the Synology apps, which is of course a real pain - very user unfriendly. My enterprise IT experience (on company domain networks, mostly Windows AD, etc.) has always needed Single Sign On and the Users access has been driven from that. ![]() See end of this post. No, a home network has no central management, so each user is a local user which must be created on a per device basis, the only exception to this is by signing in with a Microsoft account, where you get a similarity to roaming profiles. For home users to not need to login to the NAS each time, you can go to control panel and look for credential manager, in here create a user - domain will be the NAS by IP or name, followed by nasnameuser and their password (for the NAS DSM) - note you cannot use multiple accounts, only one per session. The credentials will be saved under that users profile, so when they login to the device, they are automatically logged in to the NAS so they will not be prompted. Then check DNS server accepts request properly and the Synology has its own DNS record. Photo Station, etc. Ive tried quite a number of variations on putting an entry into CM, so I guess Ive got something wrong. Ive got my NAS on a, so using IP rather than NASname, but tried both approaches. What format would you expect the Internet or Network Address field to take Neither my (192.168.n.n) nor. If, in the Browser, I save the login then of course I get presented with that user option when I next visit that app, but that does nt remove the login screen from the app run process. It may however be as simple as allowing guest access if you want everyone in the house to view specific things. So far Ive not spotted a solution to the Synology apps log in issue. A partial help of course is to save the login in the browser and just select that when presented with each Synology packages login pane. Or login once to the DSM and run them from that - which means Synology DSM can do it somehow. I can see why youre not keen on Synology - at least from the software perspective.
